What is HomePlanner?

HomePlanner is a software product that allows you to control PLCBus devices installed at your home, be them lights or other appliances.

Once installed, HomePlanner runs on your PC and communicates with your existing PLCBus devices, effectively allowing you to:

  • Turn your lights and other devices on and off, according to different events (sunset, sunrise, status changes, or many other custom events).

  • Program your lights to automatically turn off after a certain period of time.

  • Control all of your lights and appliances with any web browser, including PocketPC devices and cellular phones.

  • Use any PDA as a remote control to manage all your lights and other PLCBus appliances.

  • Design your own maps and plans of your house, by fully customazing the user interface.

  • Monitor and control your home through internet, PDAs, and cellular phones.

Apart from this software, you will need to buy one or more PLCBus devices. Please check this list  to make sure you have all that's required.

Ok, but what is PLCBus?

PLCBus is a new and exciting technology which allows your lights and other appliances to be controlled by computers and other devices. PLCBus devices are typically electronic switches and dimmers which communicate between themselves by transmitting a signal over the power wires.

This effectively means that if you want to automate your house, yo don't need to re-wire! Once the devices are in place, you can also connect your computer to the network by using a PLCBus computer interface (for instance, PLCBus 1141 USB interface, commercially available).

That's where HomePlanner comes in. With one or more PLCBus devices at home, and the USB interface, HomePlanner can now monitor and control all your devices, and make them available to you via Internet, PDA, cellphone, etc.
